Marathon Eryri - Snowdonia Marathon 2017
On 28th October 2017 a few thousand people ran the Marathon Eryri - Snowdonia Marathon. Unfortunately I wasn't one of them this year. I'm taking liberties with the photograph above - that was my first marathon, helped along the finishing line by Sabina.
I've done the Snowdonia Marathon three times, but because of osteoarthritis in my knee I've had to give up running. This old-age malarkey doesn't come alone! But a few of us went up to support friends who were running. Paula was doing it for the 10th time!
We began the weekend - after a couple of false starts for some of us - with a meal in Ty'n y Coed, Capel Curig. Excellent food, good beer, brilliant menu - including gluten free. Welcomes walkers and dogs! Then off to our home for the next couple of nights - Plas Curig Hostel, which also welcomes walkers and dogs. (And Marathon Runners)
Just a shame that someone scratched our car in the car park, and didn't own up. Apart from that, a lovely place to stay.
Outside Pen y Gwryd Hotel.
Got to keep warm whilst waiting for the runners!
The front runners are probably in Beddgelert by now - but here come the others, a colourful stream rounding the corner from Pen y Pass.
Unfortunately, all the photos I've got of Paula are blurred - she was running like the wind!!
After rounding Pen y Gwryd, the supporters decided to go for a walk, rather than get stuck in the traffic. So we set off up to Carnedd y Cribau, for a short walk, aiming to be back in Llanberis for when Paula crossed the finish line.
I took a few photos out on the walk, but to be honest it was so foggy, and Snowdon had a cloak of mist and fog around her knees, that I didn't get any good photos. This one is of the finish line, and I'm sure Paula is in there somewhere, but I can't see her!!
That evening we celebrated - along with quite a few others - at the Padarn Hotel, Llanberis. Great food - and a gluten free menu - but our marathon runner was whacked and we went home early, for a well earned rest!
The next day we all went home. Well, I didn't, because I was going on toThe Lake District. But that is for the next blog!
See you soon.
